Resources for Volunteer Organizations

This website is designed to be a resource for all community service and volunteer organizations operating in New York State. We hope to add functions and information over time that will enhance the ability of your organizations to serve your mission in your communities while including volunteers in the delivery of service and in the decision making process.

One of the goals of the Office is to support and develop a stronger relationship with other volunteer organizations throughout the State that are so vital to the well-being of our communities, but that may not receive funding directly from us. Partnering with experts such as the Points of Light Institute and Timberland Company, we are providing links to resources for organizations that fit this model, in order to facilitate growth and the sharing of best practices.

Engaging volunteers to solve community issues is a primary focus of the New York State Office of National and Community Service. While the office works directly with national service programs, our goal is to include all service organizations in our activities as well as provide support to community organizations throughout the state.

The Office includes among its many partners the volunteer centers that are located throughout the state. Volunteer Centers help to match people who want to volunteer with opportunities that match their time availability and talents. The following are the volunteer centers that currently operate in New York State:

There are many communities in New York State that are not currently being served by a volunteer center. There are many organizations who directly serve specialized community needs with volunteers. Please see our volunteer opportunity locator to find opportunities in your community.

If you are starting or would like to start a volunteer center to serve your community, the Points of Light Institute has many resources for you. Visit them at www.pointsoflight.org.

Please honor young people in middle level and high school grades for outstanding volunteer service to their communities. Visit Prudential Spirit Awards at: www.prudential.com/spirit

We have gathered a few resources for volunteer organizations that we hope you find useful:

If you have a service day or special event coming up that requires volunteers, please let us know by emailing the Community Service Events Form. We’ll publish the information on our calendar, along with your contact information. We’d also love photos for the website!
